Car top shopping

Just spent the weekend combing around town trying to find the right roof rack for our friends car. The crazy thing is that no I don’t own the car and no I don’t feel like spending several hundreds dollars buy a brand new rack system.

So here’s the run down on the run around around town. We figured we’d get away for a few days and borrow our friends car for the trip. Problem was the car was not big enough. Simple solution would be to find a roof rack that would fit the car. Its a Volks Jetta which means it should be pretty easy.

But the problem is that there are tons of different roof racks available so finding the right system can be tricky. It would be easy to simply run into the local sports shop and buy a complete system but heck it not even my car so that was a non starter.

Some places rent out systems but for some reason they did not have the right equipment for the Jetta that I was using for the trip. I quick search on Craigslist for a used car roof rack turned up numerous systems but again nothing that matched the car in question. So instead of a camping trip up north with all the gear a nice one day trip to Wonderland was the solution.
